Benton Park West is a neighborhood located in the central eastern portion of the City of St. Louis with a population, at the time of the 4,404 residents. Covering no more 0.40 total square miles, Benton Park West is bounded by Fox Park and McKinley Heights at the north, Gravois Park near the south, Benton Park near the east and Tower Grove West towards the west. It is represented by one Aldermen within the ninth Ward.
The Benton Park West Neighborhood was mainly settled by German immigrants who arrived to the region between the 1880s through the 1930s. The community was a working-class area where many families owned their own business and Benton Park West was quickly becoming an established community by the mid-1880s within the City of St. Louis. Many of the homes the working-class immigrants built remain today.
In the 1970s, most of Benton Park West was comprised of two different neighborhoods, the Compton Hill and Marquette-Cherokee neighborhoods. Sections of the two neighborhoods currently make up most of the northern, western and eastern regions of Benton Park West.
Today, there are many storefronts scattered throughout the area and are along the streets of Cherokee Street, Gravois Avenue and Jefferson Avenue.
Residents of Benton Park West are served by the St. Louis Public School District.
