St. Louis REALTORS® Works with St. Louis Vacancy Collaborative to Pass Legislation to Help Address Vacancy in the City of St. Louis:
St. Louis REALTORS® became an active member with the St. Louis Vacancy Collaborative in the pursuit of a common interest in addressing the challenge of thousands of vacant properties in St. Louis.
Members of the St. Louis Vacancy Collaborative convened a Clear Titles Working Group, composed of community leaders and subject matter experts, to draft legislation that would improve the insurability of title by enhancing the required tax foreclosure sale notice. That piece of legislation has been reintroduced this legislative session by State Representatives Michael O'Donnell (R) sponsoring HB 2218 and Donna Baringer (D) sponsoring HB 2217. St. Louis REALTORS® and Missouri REALTORS® are supportive of this legislation again this session.
The legislation will help address the more than 10,000 vacant buildings and 14,000 vacant lots that are overwhelmingly located in low-income communities of color, but cannot easily be returned to the housing market except by costly and time-consuming legal intervention.

The bill overall is technical, and the goals are simple and broad. A document honing in on the specifics of the bill proposal is available for download. |
