Yesterday the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) launched a new website for renters and housing providers who are in need of rental assistance to cover rent owed.
The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) is participating in a call-to-action to spread awareness of the toolkit and rental assistance options, so you will see it shared on NAR's social media accounts today. You can also utilize the social media assets which are provided in an Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) call-to-action toolkit for social media.
In addition, the policy team has compiled a collection of NAR resources (including a new page with information on the end of the eviction moratorium), federal resources (including the CFPB toolkit and info from Treasury and HUD), and resources from other industry groups (such as NMHC resources on communicating with tenants who owe rent).
NAR has always maintained that the best solution for all parties was rental assistance to cover the rent, taxes, and utility bills for tenants struggling during the pandemic. Our focus now is on the swift and full implementation of rental assistance as we aim to regain stability and normalcy in America's housing market.
Rental assistance is available to help renters pay the rent they owe, and housing providers collect it so they can meet their financial obligations. Nearly every program allows housing providers to apply on behalf of their tenants (with their permission), and all can make direct payments to the housing provider on behalf of the tenant.
Not only will sharing these resources be helpful to REALTORS® who own/manage rental properties, but it can also be members can share with clients. This aid can help renters stay in their units, and housing providers pay their mortgages, and, by proactively pushing it out, we are demonstrating that those are NAR's priorities. Successful deployment of the rental assistance program is key to preventing a future eviction moratorium!
Thank you all!
