You have decided to pursue a career in real estate—so what's your next move? After completing the state licensing requirements, you'll want to become a REALTOR®. By becoming a member of St. Louis REALTORS®, you also become a member of Missouri REALTORS® (MR) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR).

Requirements to join:

  • Hold a valid real estate license and be engaged with a real estate firm located within the state of Missouri or a contiguous state.
  • Be affiliated with a Designated REALTOR®; or be the principal of record or broker in charge of your firm;
  • Within 60 days of enrollment, attend New Member Orientation, complete NAR's "Code of Ethics Course for New Members," and complete the REALTORS® Fairhaven Program (a FREE online interactive Fair Housing Tool created by the National Association of REALTORS®).
  • Agree to abide by the National Association of REALTORS®' Code of Ethics, the constitution, bylaws, and rules and regulations of local, state, and national associations.
  • Agree to arbitrate business disputes following the Code of Ethics and Arbitration Manual of the Association.
  • Meet all other requirements as specified in the membership application.

Secondary Membership

Some individuals choose to have a primary membership with one association and secondary membership at another to receive the benefits of membership from each association. The privileges of secondary membership are the same as a primary membership. The only distinction is that the secondary association omits National and State membership dues for the member since they are collected through the primary.

Some brokers may have multiple secondary memberships, so their agents can choose from various local associations for their primary membership. For a REALTOR® to hold primary membership in an association, their Designated REALTOR® must be either secondary or primary with the association.

Requirements to join:

  • Hold a valid real estate license and be engaged with a real estate firm located within the state of Missouri or a contiguous state.
  • Provide a letter of good standing from your primary REALTOR® Association.
  • Agree to abide by the National Association of REALTORS® Code of Ethics; and the constitution, bylaws, and rules and regulations of local, state, and national Association.
  • Agree to arbitrate business disputes following the Code of Ethics and Arbitration Manual of the Association.
  • Meet all other requirements as specified in the membership application.

 IMPORTANT: We make every effort to verify your license status with the MREC. If your license is not yet available on the MREC website, you must include a copy of your state-issued license or work permit during your application.
